Greetings everyone,
I’m Jo-Ann, currently interning at
Cummins Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. as a Customer Support Representative (CSR).
Cummins is a global power leader that design,
manufacture, supply and service diesel engines, power generator systems and
other related technologies.
During the first day of my internship, I was like
everyone else feeling very nervous as I did not know what was in store for me.
However, as soon as I stepped into the office, I was greeted by Gina, the CSR
Team Leader who went on to introduce me to all the CSR staff. They were all very
warm and friendly which helped me settled in pretty quickly. As soon as I
settled down, I was asked to attend an on-boarding programme by the company.

The purpose of the programme was to brief us on
work safety and introduced me to the organisational structure of Cummins. At
Cummins, work safety is their top priority. Employees are briefed since day 1
the dos and don’ts, such as being in proper attire by wearing safety vests and
safety boots when entering the warehouse. As for organisational structure, the
programme introduced the key appointment holders and the various important
personnel so that I would know who to look for when needed. I was also brief on
the company’s rules and regulation such as the proper dress code for work and
also the company’s leave policy and etc.
As is a company-wide effort to encourage and promote
healthy living, I was also issued a health tracking device that tracks how many
steps I take each day. In return, I can exchange my total steps
for cash vouchers every three months!

Soon after, I was then asked to sit in for their
daily CSR meeting. It was really an eye opening experience as it was the first
time ever that I attended a department meeting. Every CSR is assigned to a
respective set of clients based on the region the clients are from and the
daily meeting acts as a channel to round up the daily problems faced and
brainstorming as a team on the solutions available. Areas for improvement were
also submitted via this meeting for work procedures and procurement process.

As for myself, my main job scope is to generate reports and on top of that, do daily CS activities such as order upload, create Siebel service requests to close Siebel activity for orders and claims entry in the system. The reports consist of daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly reports.
At Cummins, they are very systematic and well-structured and they had
also prepared a task list for me and the timeline for each task.
Below are my current workload as of today:
Today marks the fourth week of intern and I’m looking forward
to learning more new things in Cummins.
